A familiar face,
a new chapter.
A former UVA student who worked at our counter came back to Charlottesville after graduating and starting his career. This time, he brought his girlfriend to the kitchen he remembered.

OUR KITCHEN ON WEST MAIN
Warm lights, wooden benches and a good meal waiting. Our little kitchen is a place to catch up with a friend, take a lunch break or settle in over a bowl of K ramen.

CATERING WITH CARE
Team meals, office lunches and campus gatherings. We prepare individually packaged rice boxes with seasoned basmati rice, salad, your choice of protein, housemade sauces and pita.
We’ve catered for UVA Health for five years and regularly prepare meals for UVA sports teams. Tell us who you’re feeding, and we’ll help you plan the food.
Plan your cateringLOCALLY OWNED. MOTHER-OWNED.
Behind Box’d Kitchen is Nayoung Yum, a mom to twins and the owner of your neighborhood kitchen in Charlottesville.
Her twins are a son and a daughter, and one is a student at UVA. For Nayoung, the university community is part of the family.
That care reaches the people behind the counter, too. Many of our team members are UVA students. We make room for classes, exams and the next big step.
More from our kitchen

FOOD + COMMUNITY + CARE
We want to be a place that supports UVA students, through the busy days and the big changes.
Many of the people behind our counter are UVA students. Classes, exams and breaks come first, and we work with them to make room for both school and work. They bring their ideas and experiences into our kitchen. We learn from them, too.
I’m a mother of twins, a son and a daughter, and one of my children is a student at UVA. I see something of my own family in the students around us. Preparing meals for them feels especially close to home.
When we put a team meal together, I think about what I would want my own child to eat. Protein, vegetables and basmati rice, with care in the way it all comes together.
THE MOMENTS THAT STAY
Two moments our owner
still thinks about.
A former UVA student who worked at our counter came back to Charlottesville after graduating and starting his career. This time, he brought his girlfriend to the kitchen he remembered.
A longtime regular, a high-school athlete who left for college in another state, told us that our food was what he missed most. Small words that meant so much to us.
Stories shared by our owner. Names and personal details are kept private.
WITH GRATITUDE
That’s the kind of place we hope to be. Somewhere that holds a little piece of your college years: a meal after practice, a shift behind the counter, a pause between exams, time with a friend.
This community has given us so much encouragement. We want to give that care back, in the food we make, the students we work alongside and the people we welcome.
